National Doctor Day

Paige McDaniel • Mar 30, 2023

On March 30th each year, National Doctors Day honors the professionals for their dedication and contributions to society and the community. Their dedication to putting patients first, time and again. On National Doctors Day, we say “thank you” to our physicians for all that they do for us and our loved ones.

This year I went to our very own Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital, where I met with Dr. Nicholas Posge. He has worked as a Podiatrist for SBAMH for 5 years.

Dr. Nicholas Posge, Podiatrist

Receiving his medical degree from Kent State College of Podiatric Medicine, he did a three-year surgical residency at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. He is the first person in his family to have a career in medicine. He is a member of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons and the American Podiatric Medical Association.

Dr. Posge will see patients for wound care, outpatient clinical and routine care, geriatric and diabetic foot care, outpatient surgical management, and more.

Podiatrists treat a variety of foot and ankle ailments, including calluses, ingrown toenails, heel spurs, arthritis, and arch problems. They also treat foot and leg problems associated with diabetes, obesity, and other health conditions.

Dr. Posge's most common ailment is Planter Fasciitis, which is one of the most common causes of heel pain. Plantar fasciitis commonly causes stabbing pain that usually occurs with your first steps in the morning. As you get up and move, the pain normally decreases, but it might return after long periods of standing or when you stand up after sitting.

Even though Dr. Posge misses his family and Ohio food, he is glad he took the job at SBAMH and made the move to Kansas. He gets to help people every day and make people more comfortable one foot or leg at a time.
