We are happy to announce our keynote speaker for the first-ever Butler County Women in Business Spring Conference! Allow us to introduce you, Annette Lawless!

Annette is known for many things, but is most recognized as a Murrow and Emmy-award-winning journalist. Currently, she proudly serves as an anchor and investigative reporter at KWCH 12 News.

She knows what being rooted in Rural Success really means. Born in Wellington and a graduate of Kansas State University, she is a celebrated storyteller, known for her in-depth work on cold cases and missing children. Her diligent research has helped law enforcement find trafficked children and convict sex traffickers. She’s been featured in many forms of media across the country, including the LA Times, college research journals, a show with Nancy Grace, and on the Hulu series, “How I Escaped My Cult.”

More than a storyteller, Annette uses her unique skills in multiple modes and genres of media.

She’s also contributed on the big screen, acting in more than 20 films, including The Avengers, Fun Size, Draft Day, and many independent film projects.

At home, Annette enjoys being a homemaker to her husband, a photojournalist at KWCH, and their three children. You’ll often find her in the garden or baking her prized cinnamon rolls.

We’re so excited to share Annette’s journey through wins, loses and all of the ups and downs that come with being Rooted in Rural Success.

We are excited to announce Chase Locke as the featured speaker for this year’s Annual Dinner.

Chase Locke is a respected business leader, strategist, and community advocate with deep roots in Kansas and across the region. Most recently, he served as CEO of One Country, where he led the company through a period of significant growth. Under his leadership, One Country secured major partnerships with Universal Music Group and Live Nation and earned recognition on the Inc. 5000 Regionals list.

Over the past decade, Chase has also built Outrider Co., where he advises high-profile talent, brands, and organizations at the intersection of marketing, culture, and entertainment. His career includes leadership roles in media and philanthropy, including time at iHeartMedia and as Executive Director of the Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital Foundation in his hometown of El Dorado, Kansas.

Chase brings a unique perspective on leadership, growth, and community impact, making him an outstanding addition to this year’s Annual Dinner. We look forward to welcoming him and hearing his insights as we gather to celebrate our business community.

We are pleased to announce that nominations are now open for the Awards for our Annual Dinner, recognizing businesses that contribute to the strength, growth, and vitality of our community.

Community members and business owners are invited to participate by completing our Awards Nomination Survey. This survey provides an opportunity to recognize those who demonstrate excellence, leadership, and a commitment to supporting our local business community.

2nd Annual Witches Night Out

El Dorado Chamber of Commerce Announces Witches Night Out — Now Free to Participate!

El Dorado, KS — The El Dorado Chamber of Commerce is excited to announce the 2nd annual Witches Night Out , happening on Friday, October 10, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in downtown El Dorado. This popular adults-only event invites the community to dress up, shop local, and enjoy an evening full of spooky fun.

This year’s biggest change? Passports are FREE for all participants! In previous years, passports required a small fee, but thanks to local business support, attendees can now enjoy the event at no cost.

Participants are encouraged to dress up for the Best Witch Costume Contest, Best Group , or, for those who prefer to skip the costume, enter the Best Witch's Hat contest . Participating businesses will host themed activities and treats, stamping passports as attendees make their way through downtown. Completed passports will be entered into a grand prize drawing .

“I see this event growing into such a fun tradition for our community,” said Paige McDaniel, Interim Executive Director of the El Dorado Chamber of Commerce. “By making passports free this year, we’re opening the door for even more people to experience Witches Night Out. It’s a night to celebrate creativity, support our local businesses, and have a great time with friends.”

The Chamber encourages attendees to RSVP through the Facebook event to help organizers prepare, though it is not required.

El Dorado Chamber of Commerce Announces Leadership Transition

The El Dorado Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors has officially announced a change in leadership. Greg Mudd has submitted his resignation as Executive Director, effective Friday, May 30, 2025. We thank Greg for his service and contributions to the organization and wish him all the best in his future endeavors.

In response to this transition, the Board has appointed Paige McDaniel to lead the Chamber as Interim Executive Director. Paige brings a wealth of experience, a strong commitment to the organization, and a deep understanding of the Chamber’s mission and goals. Her leadership during this period is expected to provide continuity and confidence for the Chamber team and the community it serves.

“The Board has accepted Greg’s resignation thoughtfully and with the future success of the Chamber in mind,” said Nick Engels, Board President. “We’re confident in our team and mission as we move forward.”

Paige shared her thoughts on stepping into this role:

"I am proud to have served the El Dorado Chamber of Commerce for the past three years, where I have used my experience to support our members and community. I’m honored to now serve as the Interim Executive Director during this transitional period. Our commitment to our members and the community remains unchanged. This is a time of opportunity, and I’m here to support our businesses."

"As a proud Augusta, Kansas, native, my connection to El Dorado began with my first job at just 15 years old. Over the years, I’ve built a deep appreciation for the city and its residents. My academic background includes studies at Butler Community College right here in El Dorado."

A Night to Remember: 2025 Butler County Women in Business Gala

On Saturday, May 3rd, the Butler County Women in Business community gathered for an unforgettable evening of connection, collaboration, and unification at our opening Gala.

Held at the El Dorado Civic Center, the event brought together 124 guests from across the county—entrepreneurs, professionals, leaders, and supporters—united in the mission of empowering one another and building a strong community.

The evening featured a powerful panel of women representing communities across Butler County: Amber Williams of Circa81 (Augusta), Jodi Ocadiz of Shelter Insurance (Andover), and Syndee Scribner of Scribner Enterprises (El Dorado). Each shared personal stories of vulnerability and resilience in their business journeys, inspiring heartfelt conversations and reigniting motivation among attendees.

One of the highlights of the night was our $5 raffle baskets , which added a touch of fun and generosity. Thanks to our attendees, we raised $1,080 to support the Women in Business conference next spring.

Founded in 2024 by Paige McDaniel and Nikole Babb, the Butler County Women in Business is an organization affiliated with the El Dorado Chamber of Commerce. A few leaders in the community yearned for when El Dorado hosted their own Women in Business conference but we had a bigger idea. Why not revive it and include the entire county?

Bringing together Butler County

Sometimes an outsider’s perspective or ideas are just what you need. El Dorado, Augusta, Andover and the surrounding towns in Butler County all have unique strengths and weaknesses. This is your chance to highlight those strengths and ask for advice on the weaknesses.

If we can network, collaborate and share resources, we can create a more successful business community and overall higher quality of life for Butler County.

Networking, education and celebration

The Butler County Women in Business aims to provide three major outlets for business owners, the workforce and professionals:

Networking opportunities: We aim to provide a safe, welcoming and enjoyable space for all business professionals of all levels to benefit from. This will often include dinner/lunch, drinks and dedicated time to meeting fellow attendees.
Educational seminars: Through the opening gala and future conference, the Butler County Women in Business will bring facilitators in to conduct short seminars on best business, personal and other seminars.
Celebrating our community: Of course a conference can’t be complete without recognition of those within our communities! Next year we will begin to nominate and vote on awards that will be given out at each conference.

Christmas Decoration Exchange

The spirit of Christmas and the heart of El Dorado truly shone brightly during the Chamber’s annual Christmas Decoration Exchange. Thanks to the generosity of our community, we had an abundance of beautiful new and gently used decorations available for those who might not otherwise experience the joy of a fully decorated holiday season. It’s a wonderful reminder of how fortunate many of us are and an opportunity to share that joy with others who need it most.

Looking ahead to 2025, it’s never too early to start thinking about items you can donate for next year’s exchange, and we’ll have sponsorship opportunities that will go towards helping children in need next year! Keep your eyes and ears open for more information.

While the twelve days of Christmas are traditionally celebrated between December 25 (Christmas Day) and January 5 (the eve of the Epiphany), consumer businesses often celebrate with the “12 Days of Deals” observance where they offer a new deal every day for twelve days leading up to Christmas Eve (although any 12 consecutive days during Small Business Season works).

The discounts can be incredibly effective in generating buzz and drawing crowds. After all, everyone wants to know what tomorrow’s discount will be. In this article, we’ll walk you through how you can capitalize on your own “12 Days of Deals” during Small Business Season.

Even if you’re not a traditional retail business, remember all customers enjoy a deal (or, better yet, 12 of them!).

How to Run a Successful 12 Days of Deals Campaign

The holiday season is the perfect time for small businesses to engage customers and boost sales. A "12 Days of Deals" campaign is an effective way to generate excitement, attract new customers, and encourage repeat purchases.

Here’s how your business can make the most of this strategy, regardless of your industry.

Step One: Set Goals for Your Campaign

This is not a giveaway. For your 12 Days of Deals to have an impact on your bottom line, you should get clear about what you want to achieve with your campaign.

Are you looking to:

· Increase overall sales?

· Clear out old inventory?

· Drive foot traffic to a physical location?

You do this for two reasons—you want to minimize the disappointment and don’t want people to make a special trip only to realize it’s no longer available AND people will see you sell out and that will further drive their fear of missing out. When the next deal is announced, they will not hesitate and will buy immediately.

Run an interactive campaign to boost engagement. You can do this by:

· Offering an additional prize for one lucky customer who takes advantage of the daily deal.

· Asking customers to share photos of their purchases or tag your business for a chance to win a bonus prize.

Collaboratively, our Ambassador Committee, the Celebration of Freedom Committee, and Fuel El Dorado (our Young Professional group) contribute significantly to achieving our mission. Butler County Achieves Certification as ACT® Work Ready Community

El Dorado, KS—Butler County and the Butler County ACT – A Workforce Enhancement Project announced it has met all criteria to become a certified ACT Work Ready Community (WRC). This national recognition will help support the efforts in Butler County to attract business and industry to the region by utilizing partnerships to develop, attract, and retain a strong workforce pipeline. County Administrator, Will Johnson said, “Butler County is proud of the efforts of our local schools and communities for obtaining this certification. It gives students graduating from Butler County schools a competitive advantage, supports business and industry in the region, and assists economic development efforts.”

This certification is a piece of the puzzle that aligns opportunities for communities throughout Butler County. El Dorado City Manager, David Dillner shared, “This communicates a shared interest by the community to develop strategies that facilitate workforce development opportunities and better prepare our youth with real-world skills before entering the workforce. It enhances El Dorado’s pursuit of the recruiting industry and commercial prospects because companies know the community is committed to providing them with the workforce they will need to succeed.”

This initiative was driven by partners; The Butler County ACT – A Workforce Enhancement Project, Butler County, Butler Community College, the El Dorado Chamber of Commerce, Circle and El Dorado Public Schools, and regional employers. This achievement is proof of incredible collaborative efforts throughout Butler County.

Bill Rinkenbaugh, Vice-President of Student Services at Butler Community College, brought this initiative to light after recognizing the value of this certification and shared, ”I brought the information back to Butler Community College to initiate the discussion among Workforce, Economic Development representatives, and School Districts. Thanks to individuals like; Jordan Buxton (Sevenfold) Sarah Hoefgen (El Dorado, Inc.), and Aletra Chaney-Profit (Butler Community College), the initiative took off.”

At the core of the WRC, is the ACT National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC). This national, portable credential includes three essential workplace skill categories; applied math, workplace documents, and graphic literacy. This certification is provided to every high school junior in the state of Kansas by the Kansas Department of Education. It is encouraged by education partners in Butler County and is recognized or recommended by business partners. KANSASWORKS offers this certification to other job-seekers as well. This resource is fundamental in delivering awareness, exposure, and work-based learning to students and developing a stronger workforce that meets the needs of the local business and industry.

USD 375 Circle Public Schools has been a partner in this initiative since launching nearly 4 years ago. Superintendent, Don Potter shared, “Our primary objective has always been to prepare students for future success. It is no longer sufficient for us to simply graduate students and hope for their success beyond K-12. By utilizing the Work Ready Certification to identify students’ strengths and weaknesses, we provide them with a competitive advantage as they prepare for future endeavors.”
